Blurred Background When Taking Photos - This Is How Your Photos Will Be Perfect

A blurred background when taking photos - how do I do that? That is probably the question of all the questions we are asked so often in our workshops.

Everyone knows these photos, on which the background is totally blurry and has been faded out and often you cannot find the right answers yourself to get exactly such photos. How to get a blurred background - we answer that today with this article.

1) Take photos with an open / large aperture (small number)

Probably the fastest and easiest way to get a blurred background is to photograph it with a small aperture (small number). By this we mean an aperture of f 1.8, f 2.0 or f 2.8, for example.

In order to be able to change the aperture yourself, you have to take photos either in manual mode or in aperture priority.

In order to understand the meaning of the aperture, you should read through our article on the interaction of aperture, shutter speed and ISO again as a small repetition .

If you only have the kit lens that you bought with your camera, you can only use your aperture from an aperture of f 3.5. So in order to get a blurred background by using the aperture, you should invest in an entry-level lens such as the Canon 50 mm 1.8 or the Nikon 50 mm 1.8. We promise you, you will have your real pleasure with it.

You can find out more about the entry-level lens in another article: The entry-level lens 50 mm 1.8

2) Distance from the background

It is also very helpful if your object or the person you want to photograph is very far from the background. So when there is a great distance between the two. The further away the person is from the background, the blurrier it will be in your photo.

3) Get very close

The closer you get to the person, the blurrier the background will be. However, you have to pay attention to the closest focusing distance of your lens.

4) Use a longer focal length or a zoom lens

Your background will also be affected by using a longer focal length. The larger the focal length you use, the blurrier your background will be. If you're shooting with a zoom lens, zoom in to the desired focal length.

5) Pay attention to the background

Your background will only be blurred if you have deliberately chosen a background. So look for nice backgrounds and textures or colors that will look good in your blurry photo. If you choose a very dark background, you won't see any real blurring.

Depending on how you implement the above tips, the more or less your background will be sharper or more blurred on your photo. As always, it's a matter of practice. The best thing to do now is to grab your camera and go. Find some nice backgrounds and take photos of your boyfriend, husband, wife or children. A blurred background when taking photos is no longer a problem for you from today.

We hope you enjoy taking photos.
